Episode #61: Supporting Eating Disorder Recovery with Compassion and Inclusivity with Julie Allen

When Julie Allen, an eating disorder awareness activist, CEO of the Mary Rose Boutique, and founder of the Mary Rose Foundation, was in inpatient treatment in her teens and early 20’s, her parents needed to take out a second mortgage on their home (to pay for cost).

Her treatment saved her life from anorexia and bulimia. Now, she’s on a mission to offer financial support so people can receive the treatment they need when they're recovering from eating disorders.

When she went shopping 4 years ago, while her newborn son was only 6-weeks old, she kept hearing subtle messages that something was wrong with her postpartum body.

That’s when she opened Mary Rose Boutique in Oregon. Julie wants to offer women an inclusive shopping experience where they know that their body is beautiful and they can wear clothes that make them feel comfortable and good about themselves.

On the podcast, Julie also shares how being okay with her fears and practicing self-compassion were the most pivotal for her in her eating disorder recovery.
