The Superwoman Trap: How to Get Ahead Without Having to Be Thin and Perfect

We’ve all heard what it takes for women to get ahead. Lean In. Take our seat at the table. Have tough conversations. Do less. Take risks. Ask for help. There is no shortage of advice, women’s communities, or conferences focused on one thing: how to empower women to be successful personally and professionally. Yet, the numbers still speak for themselves. According to “Women in the Workplace 2022” by McKinsey, only one in four c-suite members is a woman and one in 20 is a woman of color, which is only a 6% improvement compared to seven years ago.

What’s rarely talked about are the ideals of thinness and perfection that women are trying to live up to. Striving for thinness and perfection is  seen as normal and sadly, disempowers, distracts and disembodies women.

In this talk, Tara Whitney will share what the Superwoman Trap is, the impact it’s having on women’s health and career, and how to dismantle it. By sharing her personal story and having candid conversations around what we’ve been assuming is just “normal”, audiences will walk away with a new perspective on how to move forward with their own definition of success that they haven’t had before.

Best for audiences: Entrepreneurs and business owners/leaders, department and team leaders, growing businesses and corporations, executives and managers at all levels.

Tara Whitney was a keynote speaker at our annual Women’s Forum in CT in October 2022.

She was a pleasure to work with- very responsive and easy-going. Her talk was informative and interesting and she got very good reviews from the attendees of the conference.

She was warm and welcoming and stuck around throughout the day to interact with our attendees, which was much appreciated.

We would definitely recommend Tara as a speaker.

Tara’s energy, passion, endurance and connection with the audiences was beyond impressive.

Her message was inspirational and her humor kept the audiences’ attention for the entire presentation.

She was the perfect choice for a closing speaker after a 10-month research and consideration of our planning committee group.

From the moment she came into the room to the moment she left the conference her focus was on our attendees and her professionalism did not go unnoticed. Our attendees left her presentation energized and excited about her message and her performance.

We have already received a tremendous amount of positive feedback on Tara’s presentation.

We were so fortunate to have Tara as a guest speaker at our Women’s Networking Lunch!

Her talk was the perfect balance of inspiration and practical boots-on-the-ground advice. Rich in illustrative visualizations, her words brought us to familiar experiences in our minds.

Once there, she masterfully layered in valuable lessons. Well thought out examples led us to a deeper understanding of her message. Abundant with “take-aways”, her talk was a gift that each participant will remember.

I highly recommend Tara to anyone seeking a talented, professional, inspiring speaker who will undoubtedly provide an engaging experience for all!
